What is it?
If you are standing in just the right spot, the alert beacon at the center of this artwork reflects orange light towards you in a startling way. Otherwise, its glow is contained by a coarsely-built wall of weathering-steel landscape edging.
The mirror posts were designed and fabricated by the artist. Its rear disc is subtly formed of two interlocking halves, cut with a large-scale CNC router, and made of plywood underlayment chemically aged by the artist.
Its form was inspired by a solar concentrator in Nevada which concentrates solar energy from a wide area into a central column of molten salt; this artwork reverses that flow of light.
