What is it?

Point a finger into the box (without touching) to reveal something.

  • First round: Product photos from online retail
  • Second round: Vintage magazine ads
  • Third round: Slides from the pitch decks of famous startups
  • Fourth round: Messages from the artist

It senses interactions through a Neonode infrared touch sensor bar concealed behind the opening. The front door of “Black Box” is a Hoffman Electric Company electrical panel cover of uncertain vintage; its pine case was constructed and weathered by the artist using water-based wood stain and colored carnauba waxes, finished with a clear coat of bowling alley wax.
